Periodontics

At Tilger Center for Dentistry, we know that tooth health starts at the gums. Periodontal dentistry is the formal term for any dentistry associated with the treatment of the gums. In periodontal dentistry, we focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatments of any and all forms of periodontal diseases as well as the placement of dental implants. Because dental implants require placement into the gums in order to fuse with the patient’s jaw bone over time, this placement of dental implants is considered a form of periodontal dentistry. Dentists who specialize in periodontal dentistry are referred to as periodontists and at Tilger Center for Dentistry, we have a variety of such experts on our team. Periodontists help implement the prevention, diagnosis, and treatments of periodontal disease, specializing in the treatments of oral inflammation. Recent studies have shown that nearly half of the adults living in the United States suffer from some form of periodontal disease, the most common of those being gingivitis. To ensure that you and your family are on the better side of the percentages be sure to call us today, we will help you take control of your oral health.

Causes, types, signs, and symptoms of Periodontal Disease -

Periodontal disease is the disease of the surrounding tissues of the teeth, known as the gums. The most common of these diseases is gingivitis, which is estimated to affect up to half of the adults living in the United States today. Like diseases of the teeth, periodontal diseases are caused by bacterial accumulation. In the case of gingivitis, the bacteria present creates an inflammation of the gums causing them to become red, swollen and bleed easily. Treatments and prevention of periodontal diseases, involve maintaining good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing daily.  Most forms of periodontal diseases can be treated by a simple change in this oral hygiene routine, for more severe cases however treatment with your dentist may be necessary. We offer a variety of periodontal disease treatments. Call us to schedule an appointment and take control of your oral health today.

Pocket Irrigation -

Another form of periodontal treatment that we offer is pocket irrigation. Pocket irrigation is a form of dental cleaning used to prevent further accumulation of bacteria. At our offices, Our doctors will use a device with a rounded tip which reduces the risk of tissue damage while still extensively cleaning the areas that need to be flushed of bacteria. Even though patients can do this at home, it is recommended to have your dentist perform this service professionally in an office setting at least once every six months, to ensure there are no pockets of bacteria forming.
